Blog Post 10

Ms. Cassidy's First Grade

Ms. Cassidy blew my mind with the amount of technology she uses in her classroom but what really shocked me was how creative she was in integrating technology. She did not just introduce the usual boring blogs but also taught about how to use wikis as well as bring something kids see as fun, the Nintendo DS, into the classroom. I think that the best idea that Ms. Cassidy taught in these videos was that students are never to young to start learning technology. The students in her classroom are so far ahead of even some college students and could probably do better than some of us. Ms. Cassidy also adds morals into technology, for example, the blog post etiquette that her students have already learned by using kind words and constructive criticism to help other students learn more about the subject or show them how to work the blog sites better by leaving tips. One interesting question I thought was raised in the student questions at the end was about the originality of the students work. Cassidy's answer was very helpful to me because I never understood how to avoid plagiarism in blogs until she discussed her method of asking the students the same information just altered some for a new and inventive answer of their own. One of the main problems I would face in adding more technology in the classroom would be the difference in socioeconomic statuses among students and the parents allowing their kids to be on the internet as well as their names, pictures, and school work. As a teacher, I would try to encourage parents to sign forms allowing me to put their child's work online as well as show their progress and show the parents how easy it would be to access their student's work and grade. I would also try to keep technology fees to a minimum for all students to encourage parents to pay which is very hard to do even in Baldwin county where technology is everywhere.

C4K October

10/9/14 Project #6#5  C4K Dear everyone, Today I’m writing about my blogging challenge #2. I think kids should be able to pick if they want to go to Spanish or not because some people have only had one year of Spanish. And we should be able to pick when they want to go to class so we can be ready to learn and I think we should be able to read when ever we want and where we want and who we are with I also think we should able to listen to music when we are reading cause I know for me it helps me to read and to be focused. And I think we should be able to sit were we want because I think that’s fair for everyone who doesn’t talk to there friends during class. I think we should also be able to pick what we want top learn because then we will want to learn. we should be able to use electronics in every class. What is your favorite class. And what do you think about this? And what can you do about this? What do you have fro questions about this? Do you think we can make this work?
Response- Lexi, I am a student at the University of South Alabama and I agree with all that you are saying. Unfortunately, we aren't able to make some of those decisions but, luckily it will get better when you get in college because it is much more laid back. Good luck with class and Spanish Class.

10/19/14 Project#6 C4K#6 At school I like recess.
Response-Hi Ethan, I am a student at the University of South Alabama. When I was in school, I loved recess, it was a time to be loud and relieve some stress.

10/26/14 Project #6 C4K#7 Our literacy class is learning how to read maps and a saying for NESW N stands for North,E stands for East,S stands for South and W stands for West. The saying for this is Never Eat Soggy Weet-bix.
Response-Hi, Toma. My name is Paige and I am a student at the University of South Alabama. Reading a map is very important, I use a map daily to get me from one place to another. There are many acronyms for North South Eat West. Some that I learned were:N-never, E-eat, S-sour, W-worms or N-never, E-eat, S-sour ,W-watermelon These silly little rhymes will really help you learn North South East West. Have a great week.

Project 6 C4K 4

Marc Prensky talks in his blog about how children are scared to ask the wrong question. He says "children are scared to get in front of people and speak or be recorded." I was unable to respond because it was a video and did not have a comment button. My comment would be, that it is very true that children should learn how to speak in large crowds and be able to be recorded and feel comfortable.

Blog 7

For this blog we watched how kindergarten and first graders us their iPads in class. Mrs. Tuck the teacher explained Popplet the app that the children use to make a web with pictures on the story they have read. After they are finished with their Popplet, she screenshots a picture of it so they can have it to refer to. Mrs. Tuck also records the students on the iPad when they read so they can go back and listen to it and see where they made mistakes. I think that technology is a great tool for all ages, especially children, because it will continue to grow rapidly. It is so amazing that children at the age of 5 are more technologically savvy than most adults. In two years, I hope to be in a school that uses the technology based system. Those teachers are really helping the students out by teaching all about how to work technology, and it will be great when all school systems teach in that way. The other part of the assignment was to list my strengths and weaknesses about technology and how I can get myself ready for it.

  Strengths
I love to learn new things about technology.
Technology amazes me on how it works.
  I use technology daily.
I understand that children are fully capable of learning technology no matter the age.

  Weaknesses
I should use technology more to keep me organized.
 I like to procrastinate.
I like to bite off more than I can chew most of the time.
My time management skills need major improvement .

When thinking about being a teacher in the next two years is scary to me, just because I know that the styles of teaching will constantly be changing. When having my own classroom, I will have to stay on my game and continue to learn everyday about different teaching styles and all different ways to use technology in my classroom. When teaching I want to impact my children, so that in 10 years when they are walking across the stage they can think back on my class and how it help them along their path.
