blog post 2

1) The central message if this video is that you can not always just take notes and learn. Everyone is a different learner, some may be able to study notes that are given and make a good grade, where others, have to actually be involved to learn it. The author makes the case at the end of the video by showing did not learn anything out of it. Everyone took notes as if the final was going to be on paper but, they were asked to do something different that they never got to practice. Yes, i agree with the conclusion, because you can see the students did not learn anything. 2)Roberts thinks teaching in the 21st century means the teacher is no longer the main source educator, the main source is electronic sources. Thesis: Teacher is no longer the primary source of information. Evidence: Students find more of their information from outside sources such as Facebook, Google, Twitter, and Yahoo, instead of the old fashioned way of a physical copy of a book. Argument: Students are no longer limited to what they can learn from a human being they are learning from but can tap into resources where people are professionals in each and every field known where the best advice can be filtered through with the click of a button. I feel that it allows some students to get away with not having to actually learn some material but allows other students untapped potential into what they can learn about by using this technology. This will effect my as an educator by having to stay up to date with technology so that I may not limit any students chance to grow in knowledge to a new level but also keeps me on my toes with students looking for an easy way out. 3)In the movie , The Networked Student, it shows all the way to use technology. "Why does a student even need a teacher?" it explains that a teacher is there to help find the right resources, information, and teach the student more than one way to find information. Some parents are not up to date on all the new technology, where a teacher has to be to educate the student for the future. The movie shows, that as an educator, we will give them the correct an up to date resources to continue in the future. 4)The thesis of Davis's video is, teachers do not have to know everything anymore. The teacher can supply the student with information and reliable websites, and the student will take it from there and explore. I think the idea seems a little extreme, it is hard to believe that the students will all learn without discipline. All children are different, with different ambitions some more than others. I would be a little nervous that some students would explore and take it to the extreme while others are not so fond of the idea and do not take much interest in it. 5) Who is ahead in the race? I think, that children are ahead in the race because they have been introduced to technology at such a young age for free. As a college student I did not use technology a good bit until I got into college and was completely lost. On average, 8 out of 10 children of all ages will be in buggies at the store playing on some type of technology device. 6) Yes, Flipping the classroom is new to me. I believe this approach can be extremely useful to me as long as all students are equipped with some way of watching the videos. Flipping the classroom is an easy way to cut down lecture time in the class and use more time solving problems which is a big problem currently in math which causes some students not to understand and give up without the teacher's help and encouragement. 7)One thing I can use is that everyone in the classroom can help another student learn not just the teacher. The class is a team and we are all working together to become smarter and better students. This approach also links the athletes who usually do not shine in the classroom and since of comfort with what they are doing and how to become a better learner through others.

what about EDM310? blog post 1

outline What have I heard about EDM310
What are my fears about EDM310
Compare and contrast EMD310 to other classes I have taken
What will be the most difficult thing about EDM310
The best way to address the most difficult thing
Questions about this course
When I first registered for EDM310 I had no idea what it was. I didn't do much research on the class and figured i would just see what it was all about on the first day. The closer to the time school was starting I began to panic so I asked a friend, he said it was a computer class that wasn't difficult, he also is very computer savvy unlike myself. He told me if I just stay on top of the work, I would be fine. I fear that I will procrastinate and not stay up to date on my work. I am a full time student and I work 30 hours a week so I have to be very careful with my time. With so much going on at this point in my life I feel like I have no time to procrastinate, because if I do there will not be a very good turn out with my grades. Other college courses I have taken in the past, was on paper with only a little amount online, unlike this course it is all online. This class you are your own guide as far as keeping up with your work and the due dates. Other teachers I have had in the past will have of work for you to do in the class, where in this it is done outside of class. EDM310 is a very fast paced course from day one, so I will have to stay on top of my work and not slack, where as some courses they will speed up towards the end.The most difficult thing for me in EDM310 will be to remember to keep up with all the due dates and work. I am very busy with work and my other classes so remembering to do my work will be a struggle but it will also keep me organized. I very thankful for taking this class, because it will really teach you time management skills. As far as questions, I do not have any at this time, but if I do I will make sure to ask them at the beginning or end of each class time. As the semester goes on, I am sure I will have questions but for now there are not any I can think of.

practice blog post

outline outline Introduction outline Why do I want to be an educator
What does an educator do in his or her practice
What are my passions
Hi, my name is Paige Odom, I am from Mobile, AL. I graduated from Baker High School in 2011. I love being outdoors or watching sports. I attended Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton, AL. After my first two years of college on a softball scholarship, I decided to attended South because both my aunt and uncle received their PhD. from South. I am one of five kids, me being the oldest, and five years old being the youngest. I entered the education field because I love children, watching them progress, and helping children. Something about cute little 3ft humans with bright bows with a book bag that weighs them down warms my heart. I love interacting with children, learning from them while they learn from me. Seeing how a child learns is so fascinating to me, they are like a sponge and every little thing you do or say they take it all in. From Monday to Friday of the same week they can learn so many things and do not even realize it, and that is what amazes me. Everyone is raised differently, from financial issues to single parents everyone is different. Children do not understand why maybe their parents do not have the extra money for new shoes or why their mother is not around, but I want to be the teacher that they will not have to think of any of that. In my class I want to treat everyone fairly, we will all have the same dreams and that is to be smarter than the day before. In the 21st century, teachers have to understand that everyone's family is different. Yes, I will be there to be an educator, but I will also be there if they feel threated, need anything, and someone to listen. Many teachers come to class because that is their job, I want to come for a purpose and that is to help children to not only become smarter but become prepared for life.
I am a good listener and always willing to help others when they need something or just a shoulder to lean on. I like to spend time talking to my family and enjoying the outdoors instead of being at work with rude customers. I need to improve on the facial expressions I give others when I do not agree, I may not say anything but my looks say it all.
