blog post 2

1) The central message if this video is that you can not always just take notes and learn. Everyone is a different learner, some may be able to study notes that are given and make a good grade, where others, have to actually be involved to learn it. The author makes the case at the end of the video by showing did not learn anything out of it. Everyone took notes as if the final was going to be on paper but, they were asked to do something different that they never got to practice. Yes, i agree with the conclusion, because you can see the students did not learn anything. 2)Roberts thinks teaching in the 21st century means the teacher is no longer the main source educator, the main source is electronic sources. Thesis: Teacher is no longer the primary source of information. Evidence: Students find more of their information from outside sources such as Facebook, Google, Twitter, and Yahoo, instead of the old fashioned way of a physical copy of a book. Argument: Students are no longer limited to what they can learn from a human being they are learning from but can tap into resources where people are professionals in each and every field known where the best advice can be filtered through with the click of a button. I feel that it allows some students to get away with not having to actually learn some material but allows other students untapped potential into what they can learn about by using this technology. This will effect my as an educator by having to stay up to date with technology so that I may not limit any students chance to grow in knowledge to a new level but also keeps me on my toes with students looking for an easy way out. 3)In the movie , The Networked Student, it shows all the way to use technology. "Why does a student even need a teacher?" it explains that a teacher is there to help find the right resources, information, and teach the student more than one way to find information. Some parents are not up to date on all the new technology, where a teacher has to be to educate the student for the future. The movie shows, that as an educator, we will give them the correct an up to date resources to continue in the future. 4)The thesis of Davis's video is, teachers do not have to know everything anymore. The teacher can supply the student with information and reliable websites, and the student will take it from there and explore. I think the idea seems a little extreme, it is hard to believe that the students will all learn without discipline. All children are different, with different ambitions some more than others. I would be a little nervous that some students would explore and take it to the extreme while others are not so fond of the idea and do not take much interest in it. 5) Who is ahead in the race? I think, that children are ahead in the race because they have been introduced to technology at such a young age for free. As a college student I did not use technology a good bit until I got into college and was completely lost. On average, 8 out of 10 children of all ages will be in buggies at the store playing on some type of technology device. 6) Yes, Flipping the classroom is new to me. I believe this approach can be extremely useful to me as long as all students are equipped with some way of watching the videos. Flipping the classroom is an easy way to cut down lecture time in the class and use more time solving problems which is a big problem currently in math which causes some students not to understand and give up without the teacher's help and encouragement. 7)One thing I can use is that everyone in the classroom can help another student learn not just the teacher. The class is a team and we are all working together to become smarter and better students. This approach also links the athletes who usually do not shine in the classroom and since of comfort with what they are doing and how to become a better learner through others.
